AEROTHAI has developed air navigation services and airspace management to serve increasing flight volume especially Thailand-China flights which revealed the highest proportion of international flights and increased by 213%. Flights from China especially Chengdu, are forecasted to constantly increase supporting expansion of tourism and aviation industry, while driving Thailand to become an aviation hub.


Mr. Suraphong Piyachote, Deputy Minister of Transport, said, “The Prime Minister  Mr. Settha Thavisin has announced the policy to elevate Thailand's aviation potential to become an aviation hub to stimulate the economy and tourism, the governments of Thailand and China have agreed to remove visa requirements for tourists from both countries resulting in an increase in flight volume. Of the total international flight volume, Thailand-China flights account for the highest proportion, at 20% of the total international flight volume. From October 2023 - May 2024 (8 months), Thailand - China flight volume totals 55,433 flights, an increase of 213% from the same period of last year. And it is expected that throughout 2024 there will be a total of 86,150 Thailand -China flights. Currently, airports in Thailand serving flight from China include Don Mueang, Suvarnabhumi, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Samui and Krabi airports. At Don Mueang and Samui, there are merely scheduled flights for passengers, while there are cargo and passenger flights at other airports. At this time, many airlines have returned to serve Thailand - China routes and have requested expand their services significant destinations such as Chengdu. Thailand is preparing to expand the aviation market to accommodate passengers from China. There are 55 airports in China that have flights to Thailand and Chengdu, ranked 3rd among all airports. Meanwhile, airports in Thailand that have flights to and from Chengdu include Suvarnabhumi, Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai and Samui. In the past 8 months,   we served 5,896 flights to and from Chengdu. Throughout 2024, we expect 8,850 flights. Significantly, AEROTHAI has been assigned to accommodate this growth in terms of effective air traffic management, air traffic flow management, advanced   technology and parallel routes.

Mr. Pichet Kunadhamraks, Chairman of the Board of Director, added “Air Traffic Management and Air Traffic Flow Management has been improved for efficiency and capacity, and other potential directions to serve the growth.

Mr. Nopasit Chakpitak, AEROTHAI President emphasized; “AEROTHAI has elevated our services to encourage airport capacity in accordance with the Suvarnabhumi development and expansion project, phase 2, including the new SAT-1 terminal and the third runway to be operated in September, 2024. Moreover, High Intensity Runway Operations (HIROs), are operated to optimize aircraft separation in order to minimize runway occupancy time for both arriving and departing aircraft and to enhance runway capacity. Additionally, Arrival Manager (AMAN) and the Intelligent Departure (iDep) has been implemented to boost efficiency and capacity. AEROTHAI has also supported the initial phase of U-Tapao Airport and Eastern Aerotropolis focusing on aviation and air cargo transportation in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), especially to serve flights to and from China, and the development of aircraft maintenance center with a goal to become a center for tourism industry including logistics and aviation. We have learnt a concept of Aerotropolis from Chengdu Tianfu International Airport to develop our services in all aspects.
